More Than 1 Million People Missed 2nd Dose of COVID-19 Vaccine in the Philippines

Manila, Philippines (June 8, 2021) – In recent reports from the Inter-Agency Task Force, their data shows that more than one million individuals missed their second dose of the COVID-19 vaccines.

Since March 1st of 2021, there were 3.1 million doses of Gamaleya and Sinovac vaccines inoculated.

Dr. John Wong adds that as the vaccine program in the country continues, they did anticipate receiving 2.1 million people who are or should have already had their second dose this June. Both Gamaleya and Sinovac vaccines have two quantity amounts to be provided to the vaccinees a month apart.

“We need to follow up on this. As half of the people who have taken their 1st dose are missing out on their second dose,” Wong states at the town hall forum held by the Department of Health.

Maria Rosario Vergeire, the DOH’s Undersecretary, reminds the people to acquire both doses and be fully vaccinated.

“The first dose is not really enough. Sinasabi na po ito ng ating mga eksperto that you need to get your second dose because it provides you the maximum potential of the vaccine.”

As of the moment, the Philippines now has more than eight million COVID-19 vaccines. The most brands the country has for supply are from China’s Sinovac.

The administered vaccines are around 5.1 million from the data analytics, and these are primarily first doses.
